An introduction to Tanghe
Tanghe county is under the jurisdiction of Nanyang in the southwest of Central China's Henan province. The 2,512-square-kilometer county has a population of 1.43 million.
With more than 160,000 hectares of arable land, Tanghe is the country's leading county in grain production. The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences ranked it as a model county for applying agricultural technology. It also leads in areas such as migration work for Danjiangkou Reservoir in the South-North Water Transfer Project, public security and opening-up to foreign countries.
Tanghe is known as a major oil-producing region in Henan with a 200-million-ton explored reserve. There are more than 320,000 metric tons of nickel. It is also China's largest hub producing gardenia, which is mainly used for medicine.
Several celebrated scholars were born in Tanghe, including philosopher Feng Youlan (1895-1990), author Feng Yuanjun (1900-74), geologist Feng Jinglan (1898-1976) and poet Li Ji (1922-80).
Convenient transport, complete infrastructure and abundant power supply in Tanghe has led to the construction of a major logistics park.
Different functional districts of urban areas have been formed. A 19.6-sq-km industrial park in the county has attracted more than 3.68 billion yuan ($577 million).
Machinery manufacturing, electrical appliances, processing of agricultural and side products and development of new construction materials have become four pillar industries in the park.
In 2014, the gross product of Tanghe was valued at 23.9 billion yuan, a 9.5 percent increase compared with the previous year. Annual public finance revenue reached 730 million yuan, an increase of 21 percent. Investment in fixed assets was 20.7 billion yuan, 20 percent more than in 2013.
The average disposal income of urban residents in Tanghe in 2014 was 21,593 yuan, a 9-percent annual increase, while rural residents' disposable income was 9,898 yuan, a 9.5 percent increase.
