Unique highlights of the zone

In E-Town, the total value of goods and services produced by high-tech industries exceeded 90 percent of the total value of products in the zone, the highest percentage for a development area in the country.

The zone has been focusing on high-end, high-efficient growth patterns with an emphasis on creating new high-tech enterprises. The following are some of the leading high-tech companies in the area:

Biotech Pharmaceuticals Co Ltd: The company produces Nimotuzumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets malignant tumors and is a National Class I drug. It is the first company in China with an automatic production line for the large-scale culturing of mammalian cells.

Staidson(Beijing)Biopharmaceuticals Co Ltd: The company produces mouse nerve growth factor, a National Class I drug, that is used to treat cancer.

Sino Biological Inc: The company produces recombinant proteins and antibody-drug conjugates used to treat cancer. It claims to have the world's largest storage for recombinant proteins.

The Beijing Xiangyun Project began in 2010 to build the first pilot cloud computing base in Beijing. It's expected to fuel the development of cloud computing services and reach an output value of 200 billion yuan this year.

Goldwind Science &Technology Co Ltd: The international wind power company produces direct-drive permanent magnet wind turbine generators that have a 3.0-megawatt capacity. Its facility in E-Town manufactures turbine models and converters.

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp: A semiconductor foundry with headquarters in Shanghai provides integrated circuit foundry and technology services. It has the independent intellectual property rights for 32-, 45- and 65-nanometer integrated circuits.

Beijing Tongyizhong Special Fiber Technology & Development Co Ltd: Founded in 1999, the company develops ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fiber and fiber composites, which are tough materials that are resistant to corrosive chemicals. Its UHMWPE fiber project won the National Scientific and Technology Progress second-prize award in 2009.

Beijing Xingxuan Technology Co Ltd: Based in Beijing, the company focuses on new models of fluid power systems to reduce emissions and conserve on energy.

Bluestar (Beijing) Chemical Machinery Co Ltd: The only company in China that can develop, design and manufacture ion membrane electrolyzers and provide ion membrane electrolysis technology. It has the independent intellectual rights on the technology to produce film grade ion exchange membrane caustic soda, an important ingredient for the chemical industry.

Beijing StarTimes Group: Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Beijing, the company is the only certificated private enterprise in China to contract foreign projects for radio and television. It has grown into a media group with network operations. In 2007, the group founded Star Africa Media Co Ltd (Rwanda), the group's major economic step abroad.

StarTimes has divisions in 28 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda, and has six large digital TV broadcast and control center operations in 14 countries, 142 terrestrial digital TV transmitters and 23 mobile TV transmitting stations on the continent.

With over 5 million subscribers across the Africa, StarTimes is the fastest-growing digital TV operator in the continent.
