A journey of significant contributions
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War. It is also the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
In 1945, after 14 years of hard struggles and at a price of 35 million military and civilian casualties, the Chinese people won the great victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, saving the nation from subjugation and making indelible historic contribution to the international efforts to triumph over fascism and militarism. This great victory also laid an important foundation for the founding of the UN.
In 1945, determined to "save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind", China, together with the United States, the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom, initiated the San Francisco Conference and founded the UN, thus establishing the international order and system with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter at the core. This great undertaking opened a new chapter for world peace and development and mankind has since embarked on a new journey of progress.
