The QS World Universities 2015/16 rankings, published on Sept 15, listed four universities on the Chinese mainland in the top 100, with Tsinghua University rising into the top 25 and Peking University rising into the top 50.
Tsinghua University
Tsinghua University was listed at No 47 in the 2014/15 rankings and at No 25 in this year's ranking. Tsinghua was established in April 1911 as Tsinghua College on the site of a former royal garden. It is the alma mater of nine of the nation's top leaders since 1949, and more than 600 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
