Groundwater back on the rise

Groundwater resources grew on a monthly basis for the first time in 16 years last month, adding 80 million cubic meters. The growth is the result of water brought in through the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and measures to curb groundwater exploitation, according to the city's Water Management Bureau. About 500 million cubic meters of groundwater have been extracted from the ground every year for the last decade to meet the city's demand.
