Erdogan set to call snap elections for November

By Agence France-Presse in Ankara | China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-25 07:45

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected on Monday to call snap elections likely to be held on Nov 1 after efforts to form a coalition government failed.

Erdogan was due to meet with Parliament Speaker Ismet Yilmaz at 14:15 GMT a day after the deadline for forming a new government expired.

After the president calls a rerun of elections, he is expected to give a mandate to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to form an interim "election government" to take the country to the November polls.
