Words of random delirious thoughts

By Op Rana | China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-24 07:47

There have never been so many words in the world with so much scope, authority, and volition as in the immense Babel of life today. Words invented, mistreated, or sanctified by the press, by throwaway books, by advertising posters: spoken and sung on the radio, on television, in films, on the phone, on loudspeakers; shouted with a broad brush on the walls of buildings or whispered in the ear in the penumbra of love ... what has been routed is silence.

These were the words of Gabriel Garcia Marquez at the First International Congress on the Spanish Language in Zacatecas, Mexico, in April 1997.

The Chinese literature community paid tribute to Garcia Marquez by republishing many of his books on his first death anniversary earlier this year.
