Item from Aug 24, 1992, in China Daily: China's first offshore natural gas field, Jinzhou 20-2 Gas Field, went into commercial production recently. The field, explored and developed by Bohai Petroleum Corporation, will provide gas to key State projects through a 48.6 kilometer undersea pipeline.

China is gearing up its offshore oil and gas exploration, with the latest road map unveiled by the State Council last week outlining major marine energy exploration before 2020.

The plan includes a strategy to detect and store energy in offshore areas and to explore and use resources on the high seas, with measures to protect the marine environment and guarantee sustainable development.
