First steps on the track
Born Sept 29, 1956 in Hammersmith, London, his family moved to Sheffield in the north of England where Coe first showed athletic promise as a 12-year-old with Hallamshire Harriers. His first coach, father Peter, developed Coe's stamina by making him train on Sheffield's steep hills.
Enrolled at Loughborough University in 1975.
