Environmental director probed

A senior environmental protection official has been placed under investigation, China's top disciplinary watchdog said on Wednesday. Xiong Yuehui, director of scientific standards on emissions at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, is being investigated on suspicion of disciplinary and law violations, according to a statement released by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China. Such accusations typically refer to corruption.
