Northern-most railway line starts operations
China's northern-most high-speed railway started operation in Heilongjiang province on Monday. The introduction of the service means the journey time from Harbin, the provincial capital, to Qiqihar has been cut from three hours to 85 minutes. About 80 percent of that project's 60-billion-yuan ($9.4 billion) cost will come from local government coffers while all previous projects were financed by China Railway Corp.
