Universities should be safe for students

China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-18 07:37

THE NEWS THAT A DEAN at Chaohu University in East China's Anhui province allegedly molested a female college graduate and threatened her not to report him to the authorities has shocked netizens. The university authorities have launched a special investigation into the allegation and temporarily suspended the dean pending the probe's result. Comments:

A university is a place where knowledge is imparted to students, not a hideout for filthy-minded people. Therefore, university teachers and deans should be models of virtue for students. If the scandal involving the dean at Chaohu University proves true, it will not only damage the image of the dean but also other teachers, even Chinese universities and the education system as a whole. The only solution to such scandals is to get to the truth and bring the culprits to book.
