Police provide 'alive certificate'

A police station in Hua'an county, Fujian province, issued an "alive certificate" to a 74-year-old man, simply to prove that he is still alive. A local telecommunication bureau required the certificate to process the man's mobile phone service, he said. Police officials said they don't want to be issuing meaningless certificates and suggested that simplifying procedures is needed.
