Samsung tools up 'Skills Olympics' in Brazil

By Zhuan Ti | China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-15 08:05

The 43rd WorldSkills Competition began on Aug 11 in Sao Paolo, Brazil, attracting attention from people with vocational skills throughout the world.

Held by WorldSkills International and honored as the "Skills Olympics", the event is a platform for WorldSkills International members to demonstrate and discuss their vocational skills. Samsung Electronics, a major official sponsor, has been engaged in the competition for five consecutive sessions.

Samsung Electronics is providing its cutting-edge products and technologies for the event. The company said it encourages competitors to reach their dreams through the use of their skills.

"Samsung Electronics' commitment to daily skills development is a good incentive to WorldSkills International," said Simon Bartley, chairman of WorldSkills International. "I have high expectations of Samsung Electronics. As a longterm sponsor for skills competitions in South Korea and other countries, Samsung has once again offered meaningful experiences to competitors."

To support the development of technical professionals, Samsung Electronics recently introduced its global public welfare program for skilled talent development in China. It also launched the Tech Institute with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security to provide technical education to vocational school students.

With the program, Samsung Electronics hopes to develop more technical talent in China, contribute to China's vocational education and enhance the social status of blue-collar workers.

The Samsung Tech Institute was launched in March 2014 in Tianjin. It has five major training bases in Tianjin, Suzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang and Xi'an, with over 300 trainees.

Participants are equipped with professional skills for maintenance and repair, are offered professional courses to improve their abilities to adapt to society and are encouraged to have expectations for their future.

Samsung Electronics plans to establish five more training bases in China this year.

The China Employment Training and Technical Instruction Center under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security is helping Samsung locate potential project sites and to prepare teaching materials.
