An ethnic Chinese politician with her sights on a seat in Scotland's Parliament has resigned from the Scottish Nationalist Party, saying she had faced racism and bullying by her colleagues.
"It takes strength to stand up against evil and I'm doing it for myself and thousands of other people from other cultures who compose this country," Jin Yen Hongmei told local media in Scotland. Police are investigating the racism claim made by Jin, 29, who was elected to a local council in 2012.
News of her decision to quit the party made headlines over the weekend in Scotland's leading newspapers. The party has so far refused to respond to Jin's claims, saying it would be inappropriate to comment since it is now a police matter.
