The 70th anniversary of Japan's surrender

The anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II falls next Saturday. On Aug 15, 1945, then-Emperor Hirohito announced Japan's unconditional surrender and represented the country in accepting all conditions stated in the Potsdam Declaration. China, the US and Britain issued the declaration on July 26 to urge Japan to surrender. China achieved this after eight years of resistance against Japanese troops who killed millions of Chinese civilians.
