Banking sector bad loans surge to $51.96b
Nonperforming loans in the Chinese banking sector increased to 322.2 billion yuan ($51.96 billion) during the first six months of the year, 1.25 times over the level for the whole of 2014, said a report published in Caixin.com on Thursday. The NPLs of Chinese lenders rose to 1.8 trillion yuan ($289.92 billion) by the end of June, up 35.7 percent year-on-year, the report said quoting unnamed sources from an internal meeting of the China Banking Regulatory Commission.
