Man overcomes divorce hurdle

A 53-year-old man in Xi'an, surnamed Zhang, who went to the marriage registration office in Chang'an district with his wife for a divorce was refused by officers who learned that Zhang had consulted a psychiatrist 30 years ago. He was told he had to prove that his mental state was now normal, in accordance with the marriage law. Zhang consulted a psychiatrist again before the divorce was approved.
