By Xinhua in Tokyo | China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-06 07:40

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has asked the US government to look into allegations that it spied on the Japanese government and companies, local media reported.

In a call to US Vice-President Joe Biden on Wednesday, Abe asked for an explanation for the WikiLeaks website reports.

He has told Biden that if the alleged spying is true, it would damage the relationship between the two allies, Japan's Kyodo News Agency cited a government source as reporting.
