Executed man was convicted as minor, family says

By Agencies in Karachi, Pakistan | China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-05 07:46

Pakistan executed a man on Tuesday who was convicted of killing a 7-year-old boy in 2004 - when his family and lawyers say he was just a teen - despite protest over his sentence, officials said.

Authorities hanged Shafqat Hussain shortly before dawn at a Karachi prison, said Iqbal Hassan, an official of the prison judicial branch. Hassan said Hussain's brother received the body and will take it to his native village somewhere in Kashmir.

Hassan said Hussain's relatives visited him for the last time on Monday night.
