Ex-deputy governor tried for bribery

Shen Peiping, a former deputy governor of Yunnan province who is accused of taking bribes, stood trial in Beijing on Tuesday. Shen was accused at Beijing First Intermediate People's Court of accepting bribes totaling 16.15 million yuan ($2.64 million) from 2000 to 2012 and of using his post to seek profit for others. Shen confessed in court, and a verdict will be announced later. The trial was attended by nearly 60 people, including lawmakers and members of the public.
