Online red envelopes come under tax net

The State Administration of Taxation is said to have issued a notice on July 28 to collect a 20 percent tax from online "red envelopes", said a report in the Beijing Times. According to the new regulation, individuals should pay a personal income tax for the online "red envelopes" they get from enterprises as contingent income, and the tax, of which the threshold is still unknown, will be withheld by the enterprises that provide the "red envelopes".
