Focus put on items tossed from high-rises

By Zhou Wenting in Shanghai | China Daily | Updated: 2015-08-03 07:36

Shanghai plans to install surveillance cameras in some residential communities to catch people who throw objects from high-rise buildings, endangering those below.

Surveillance cameras have been used for similar purposes in Hong Kong and Japan for many years.

The city is growing taller, with an increasing number of skyscrapers built for commercial and residential use. There are more than 200 high-rise buildings at least 100 meters tall, and concerns are mounting that a regard for public safety has not grown along with the city's height.
