Item from July 31, 1981, in China Daily: After trial production, the Beijing Broadcasting Equipment Factory has begun manufacturing a high-powered TV transmitter which can televise or relay programs in both color and black-and-white. The transmitter has been judged up to the level of products of the 1970s in foreign countries.

More members of the younger generation are turning away from television to embrace the Internet and its digital offerings.

There were 428 million online video viewers across the country in 2013, with an average age of 31, according to studies by TV-ratings analysis company CSM Media Research and China International Television Corp, the distribution branch of State broadcaster China Central Television.
