Crowdfunding boosts charities
Fifty-three new crowdfunding platforms were created in the first half of this year, bringing the total in China to 211, according to a report released by Online Loan Family. The platforms raised 4.67 billion yuan ($753 million) in the first half of the year, the report said, with 55.59 percent of that going to charitable causes. Public-welfare crowdfunding platforms accounted for around 10 percent of the funds collected, and were mainly situated in Beijing, Guangdong and Shanghai. Companies in Beijing accounted for 27.5 percent of the total.
