Turkish president to visit China

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (left) is scheduled to pay a two-day visit to China starting tomorrow, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Turkey is one of the major countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, which refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives, transport infrastructure projects linking Asia and Europe, proposed by President Xi in 2013. Political analysts are also tracking the upcoming visit closely, following anti-China protests in Turkey allegedly triggered by rumors that the Chinese government had restricted Muslim Uygurs from praying and fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
