Talks resume on cease-fire deal

By Agencies in Yangon, Myanmar | China Daily | Updated: 2015-07-23 07:41

Formal negotiations are a follow-up to the informal discussions held earlier in Thailand

The Myanmar government and armed ethnic minority groups resumed critical talks on Wednesday to reach a nationwide cease-fire agreement that would end six decades of fighting before an upcoming general election that threatens to upend hard-won progress toward a deal.

The three-day formal talks are a follow-up to the informal ones held in Thailand on July 2 and 3 between the government and an ethnic armed groups' senior delegation.
