Reviving a taste of childhood - and making a profit too

By He Na and Zhou Huiying | China Daily | Updated: 2015-07-17 07:52

Yichun has two claims to fame. The city in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang is known as China's "forest capital", but it's also famous for producing the best honey in the country, especially the expensive variety made from the nectar of linden tree flowers, which in China is only made in the far north.

Despite its high quality, though, the honey never sells at the price it deserves. While Yichun-made honey retails at 40 yuan ($6.44) per kilogram, imported honey of equal quality costs at least 200 yuan per kg.

The low incomes and poor social standing have prompted many beekeepers to seek alternative work, but Wu Peishan's success may make them think again.
