The art of passing the flame forward

Later this year another of my young colleagues will head to the London School of Economics and Political Science for a coveted higher degree.

This young man was part of a pioneer team which China Daily started to cover grassroots stories with significant human interest.

In five years, I have seen him develop from a reserved, borderline-apathetic young reporter into an investigative journalist who chased storms and stories along the coastline of the South China Sea with passionate dedication.
