Profile: Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam
Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam is on a state visit to China from June 29 to July 4 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Tan was born in Singapore on Feb 7, 1940, and served as Singapore's finance minister, minister of trade and industry, education minister, deputy prime minister and defense minister, and deputy prime minister and minister for national security.
He was also chairman and chief executive officer of the Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation, chairman of Singapore Press Holdings, and executive director and deputy chairman of the Government of Singapore Investment Corp.
Tan was elected Singapore's president in August 2011.
