West must help to curb emissions, expert says

By Zheng Jinran and Yang Jun in Guiyang | China Daily | Updated: 2015-07-03 07:52

China has taken a series of measures to ensure that carbon emissions peak around 2030, but the industrialized nations must also play their part in combating climate change, according to a senior international climate official.

"For me, it's frustrating to see how the developed, industrialized world has not taken the necessary steps that they could have in the past 20 years, given the urgency of the problem," said Thomas Stocker, co-chair of a working group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The IPCC is a leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Meteorological Organization in 1988.
