Buoyed by upset victory, Duan chasing her dream

China Daily | Updated: 2015-07-02 07:53

China's Duan Yingying, nicknamed 'Duanvenport' by her fans, said she hopes to win more matches after shocking Eugenie Bouchard, a finalist last year, in the first round at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

"(Lindsay) Davenport has been my idol since I was a child," Duan said of the former world No 1 American. "My coach always asked me to learn from her because we have similar height and size."

Although Duan, who stands 6-foot-1, looks as strong as Davenport in her playing days, she is unlikely to emulate the achievements of the three Grand Slam winner, who became world No 1 at age 22.
