Fatal poisoning nets 15-year sentence

An 18-year-old Beijing man who spiked beverage bottles with poison in an attempt to get rid of his grandmother, but killed a 5-year-old boy instead, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The man, surnamed Pan, wanted to kill his grandmother in a scheme to get her property in October 2013. He was accused of giving her a box of poisoned beverages, but she vomited after drinking one and returned the rest. Pan then left the poisoned beverages at his home, where his mother put them in the trash and the boy found and consumed the drink. Pan was charged with intentional homicide and negligence causing death.
