French female shines at shortstop

A 16-year-old French girl has become the first female player on Major League Baseball's international registration list, making her eligible to be signed by clubs as of July 2.

Melissa Mayeux, a shortstop on the French Under-18 jsquad, is the pioneer prospect being eyed by MLB squads.

The international list typically is restricted to those with potential top-level talent and there is no guarantee she will be signed to a deal.
