University should highlight dangers of game addiction

China Daily | Updated: 2015-06-17 07:50

To help its students overcome their addiction to computer games, the School of Highway Science Research at Chang'an University in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province in Northwest China, reportedly forced them to delete games from their computers, threatening to confiscate them otherwise. Many students complained that the school was violating their rights because the computers were personal items. Comments:

As an educational institution, Chang'an University is obliged to educate, manage and supervise its students on campus. Therefore, it was right that the school required its students to delete their computer games and disconnect their computers from the Internet after midnight. More importantly, students need to be made aware of the latent dangers of video game addiction, as well as the importance of obeying campus rules.
