Province should explain loss on toll roads
The Guangdong provincial bureau of transportation recently published its 2014 accounting of toll roads in the province, which revealed a loss of 2.9 billion yuan ($467 million) and a 5.5 billion yuan rise in management costs. Comments:
A simple calculation shows that the high management costs are the main cause of the loss. There are no details, but management costs generally include salaries and benefits, equipment purchases and office building rents. Since there is no reason for them to have bought any extremely expensive equipment, have they employed too many people, provided excessive staff benefits or rented luxurious offices? If yes, they should correct these wrongdoings first before telling society how little money they make.
