Ten killed as militias clash

Rival factions of a self-defense militia clashed in southern Mexico on Saturday, leaving at least 10 people dead amid tensions in the region on the eve of midterm elections. An official said the death toll could rise to 16 in Xolapa, a village of some 500 people. Self-defense forces are legal in Guerrero's indigenous communities, where they are allowed to apply their customs to law and order.
