Appointments

FRHI Hotels & Resorts, the operator of Raffles Hotels & Resorts, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Swissotel Hotels & Resorts, announced the promotion of George Wee to regional vice-president, in addition to his role as general manager of the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai.

Michael Parker was appointed managing director of the luxury urban resort Banyan Tree Shanghai on the Bund.

Qin Yuan was appointed director of events and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions at the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai.
Opening

In May, the Inaugural International Consumer Electronics Show Asia opened at the Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai, which CES Asia's organizers named the first choice in hospitality. Charity
Grand Hotels Media magazine held a series of charity auctions themed "Discover the Charm of Hotels" at the Intercontinental Shanghai Pudong in May. In honor of the host's 10th anniversary, 90 top hotels across China, including the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai, donated 1 million yuan ($160,000) during the event. 021-5835-6666
Marriott cluster hotels in Shanghai hosted the 2015 Marriott East China Charity Golf Tournament on May 8 at the Agile Mickelson Shanghai International Club. Some 130 golfers, including corporate customers, sponsorship partners and senior executives of Marriott International, as well as former NBA star Yao Ming, participated in the event. 021-5359-4969
Culinary delights

Dutch Days opened to the public at the Marriott Northeast Hotel on May 28, with Aart Jacobi, ambassador of the Netherlands to China, addressing the opening ceremony. Dutch Days, which will run until June 13, treat guests to various events that bring in taste of Holland, with Dutch food and culture. They include the Dutch Touch Food Festival, from May 28 to June 7, which offers foodies a variety of cuisine prepared by Dutch Michelin starred chef Karl van Baggem.

China World Hotel, Beijing, announced its collaboration with French luxury porcelain brand Legle France to create Lotus Afternoon Tea, which is served in the hotel's lobby lounge until Dec 31. Legle France's history goes back more than 100 years and is known around the world for its expertise in glazed porcelain.
