Watch your tone when speaking Mandarin

Learning a new language in a new land is an exercise in humility.
Sure, some of your friends back home may think you're a jet-setter or something.
But they don't see you at the store struggling to ask where the dish soap is, or sporting a dumb, deer-in-the-headlights look when someone asks you a question.
