Copyright protection seeks new strategies

Despite China's increasing efforts to protect intellectual property, copyright infringement of foreign works remains an issue, with experts calling for closer international cooperation.

Thanks to accessible digital media, the popularity of foreign TV series, films and pop music have grown among Chinese audiences, but unauthorized downloads, streaming and copying are taking a toll on China's attempts to become a strong intellectual property power.

"Although it's on the decline, online piracy involving formats of TV series and entertainment programs from South Korea in China remains a challenge for cultural exchanges between the two countries," said Ahn Sung-seop, regional director of the Korea Copyright Commission's Beijing office.
