The Badminton World Federation aims to expand the Asian-dominatied game's appeal around the world by spreading major tournaments around the world and adjusting the rules.

Badminton is considered more of a leisure activity in many parts of the globe and the continued dominance of Asian powers, particularly China, on the elite stage has raised concerns that will take a toll on the game's overall popularity.

However, Poul-Erik Hoyer, the president of the BWF, remains confident his game is popular throughout the world and that prestgious events are reaching new markets.
