Thief hoped crime would gain divorce

A 30-year-old man was caught by police recently for stealing money and cigarettes from a restaurant and a foot massage shop in Pan'an county. The man, surnamed Xu, has been jailed four times since 2005. He said he embarked on a life a crime because he does not like the woman he was forced to marry 10 years ago. He hoped his reputation as a thief would end the marriage, but his request for a divorce has been turned down repeatedly by both his parents and his wife's.
