Building, construction sectors adopt system of reporting on sustainability

A Singaporean property firm has been applauded by industry peers for its strenuous efforts to improve not only its own image, but that of the wider building and construction sector.

Officials at City Developments Ltd, Singapore's second-largest real estate group, said it has overhauled its pattern of development and introduced strict rules to protect the environment since the mid-90s, after being criticized by the public over its large profits and the environmental effect of its projects.

Actions taken by the company include offering what it calls greener furniture to buyers, within a scheme called "Green Renting", and encouraging owners to save power from the moment they move into their new properties.
