Veteran Lee looking to recapture his former glory

By Sun Xiaochen In Dongguan, Guangdong | China Daily | Updated: 2015-05-13 08:14

Few athletes rebound from the disgrace of a doping violation, but Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei's resurgence at the Sudirman Cup presents a positive example.

Hitting long drives combined with surgical crosscourt drops to dictate the play before smashing to kill, Lee's game looks almost as sharp as in his prime, despite some minor flaws that underline the veteran's return from an eight-month suspension for a positive doping test at last year's worlds.

Still, Lee's excitement of coming back from the ban, which could have put an end to his remarkable career as well as a great rivalry with China's Lin Dan, is obvious.
