Leaders resign
Ed Miliband quit as Labour leader on Friday after his opposition party was decisively beaten at the polls by Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservatives. "Britain needs a strong Labour Party. Britain needs a Labour Party that can rebuild after this defeat so we can have a government that stands up for working people again," Miliband told a party meeting.
Nick Clegg resigned as leader of the Liberal Democrats after a disastrous result for his party in the election. Clegg said he must take responsibility for the party's losses, which he described as much more crushing that he expected. The Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives' junior coalition partner, lost most of the seats they held in Parliament, including those held by many of their most senior and experienced politicians.
Nigel Farage has also resigned as leader of the populist UK Independence Party after he failed to win his seat in the election.
