Man with gun killed by police

A man who wounded two people, including a police officer, with a homemade gun was shot and killed by police on Friday in Hegang, authorities said on Saturday. The suspect, 43-year-old Zhao Guogang, shot a man on the street in the left leg around 9 am, police in Hegang said in a news release. Zhao fled the scene after the shooting, but three police officers pursued him and cornered him near a residential area in Xing'an district, the release said. Instead of surrendering, Zhao opened fire on the policemen, hitting one in the head. Police then shot Zhao, who died at the scene, the release said. The injured officer was treated at a hospital for an injury that was not considered to be life-threatening.
