Capturing a sporting past in photos

Wearing cheongsams and with straight hair and neat bangs, soccer cheerleaders almost a century ago looked completely different from those who wear mini-skirts today.

A photo of the Soochow University soccer team with its "soccer baby" holding the ball, which was taken in 1928 in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, where the university was founded in 1900, highlights the changing times.

It is on show at an exhibition at the Suzhou Expo Center, where the World Table Tennis Championships are taking place. The exhibition, about Suzhou's sports history, includes 169 pictures donated by residents.
