Most PM2.5 is inhaled indoors

Findings show higher exposure at home, workplace over time

As much as 80 percent of PM2.5 is inhaled by Beijing residents in their home and office rather than the open air, a survey has found.

It's true that indoor air is generally less polluted than outdoors, but that's not the whole story. People do a lot more of their breathing indoors, so total exposure is greater.
