Mercedes-AMG GT S - Performance for Sports Car Enthusiasts
Also turning heads at this year's Auto Shanghai is the new Mercedes-AMG GT S; and not just for its exclusive AMG solarbeam yellow paint scheme.
As the new generation AMG flagship model, the Mercedes-AMG GT S is the second sports car to be solely developed by AMG, and since its debut in late 2014, it has earned praise for its characteristic styling and motorsport technology.
These have made it a worthy successor to the brand's legendary SLS AMG, and have given speed enthusiasts the performance fans have come to expect from the Affalterbach-based company.
And perform the vehicle certainly does. Led by AMG's recent research outcome, the V8 4.0 bi-turbo engine, the GT S outmuscles even the GT with 375 kw (510 hp) of power and a blistering 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
The secret behind this performance lies in the engine's unique design.
The new AMG V8 engine has two turbochargers which are not mounted on the outside of the cylinder banks but rather inside the V configuration; this allows for a more compact design, improved response, and optimal emissions.
But to focus only on performance is to miss out on the vehicle's stunning design.
Built to embody "sensual purity", the car features a long bonnet with pronounced power domes and a greenhouse which has been moved further back.
It also boasts large wheels and broad tail end that further create its distinctive look.
Adding additional flair are LED High Performance headlamps with stylized "eyebrows" and daytime running lamps, as well as three separate high-beam reflectors.
They complete an already impressive package, and show that with the Mercedes-AMG GT S, the sports car brand continues taking its celebrated Driving Performance to new heights.
