A moment in time: Teaching is the best move
Chinese children have enjoyed enduring attention from their parents to cultivate personal interests. Xie Jun, at right in the photo above, which was taken in 1997, was giving instructions to children in Beijing when some Chinese feverishly began to love chess after she won four world titles in the 1990s. In recent years, China has become an increasingly active market for artwork, and Chinese parents want their children to improve their aesthetic taste and develop artistic skills in their spare time. Some parents accompany their children to learn sports or arts. In the picture on the right, taken in February 2013, children in Beijing were being shown how to make handicrafts and artworks by popular artists at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in the 798 Art Zone, a popular area in Beijing for art lovers.
